MAY 31 – Recognition of Merle Hamm’s 30 years as our Director of Music. We will place a
basket at the back of the Sanctuary if you would like to make a donation to honor Merle
and his music ministry.

JUNE 28 – FREEDOM SUNDAY
In this special Worship we celebrate the freedoms of our land in word and music. If you are
interested Merle in singing with the expanded choir for this event, speak with Merle Hamm.

CONGRATULATIONS:
    To Patrick Wanninkhof, student at UF who is a recipient of scholarships from the
Women’s Club and the McCaughan Scholarship fund.
    To Joey Stuart, 3rd baseman, and lead-off batter for his school’s baseball team who
won the regionals and are played in the State finals on May 25 in St Lucie.
    To Gabriella Pons, (Maggi’s daughter’s) on the Miami Rowing Club, MRC, who beat out
36 other high school teams in the state to win the Silver medal. They then went on to win a
Bronze medal at the Southern Regionals in Tennessee, thus qualifying for Nationals in
Ohio.

DAY SCHOOL  NEWS
We held our annual “Trike-a-Thon” for St Judes Children’s Hospital. Students rode their
trikes, bikes and other vehicles around our garden pathway.
Summer Camp begins June 1 with a new, large water slide. Call 305 361-7501 to reserve a
spot for children 18 months thru 7 years old.

FL CONF, UCC 2009 ANNUAL MEETING
The meeting was held in Daytona Beach where we were represented by Jan Steinberg,
Suzette Wanninkhof, Patrick Wanninkhof & Rev Bud. Dr John Thomas, outgoing General
Minister of the UCC was a keynote speaker on the Theme “Come Follow Me” and Rev Kent
Salad, Conference Minister, gave a “state of the Florida Conference address.
Business included:
•        The introduction of our three new regional Youth Ministers, (our region will be served
by the Rev Sheila Guillaume who is a Hospice Chaplain with VITAS);
•        The reception of a new congregation, Rainbow Promise into the FL Conference;
•        Passing a resolution requiring all UCC clergy to attend a “Boundary Training”
workshop;
•        Passing a resolution on Racial Justice which includes encouraging members of our
churches “to be intentional in reaching and reflecting the presence of persons of all races
and ethnicities;”
•        The accepting of 5 new members to the Church and Ministry Committee;
•        A set of By-Law changes;
•        And accepting a budget for 2010.
